Why The Hair Room Doesn’t Offer Kid Pricing — And Why That’s OK

At The Hair Room, we’ve always prided ourselves on being a working mom friendly space. Over the years, 75% of our team at any given time has been made up of parents, many of them mothers balancing careers, households, and everything in between. We’ve built an environment where those parents feel supported, respected, and compensated fairly for their craft.
And that’s exactly why we don’t offer kid pricing.
Our Pricing Reflects More Than Just the Service
Haircuts and color aren’t simply about the time in the chair, they’re about the stylist’s skill, experience, and, yes, the not-so-glamorous costs of doing business in America. Rent, utilities, supplies, taxes, benefits, education, and fair wages all factor into what you see on our menu.
We know this pricing structure won’t be for everyone, and that’s okay. In fact, we tried to be “for everyone” in the early years, offering all the services to all the people, with all the accommodations and it nearly burnt us out.
Our Space Is for Escape
Most of our guests come to The Hair Room for a reason: it’s their sanctuary. It’s where they can step away from the chaos of home life, unplug from responsibilities, and feel like themselves again.
We’ve found that when we blend that sanctuary with the demands of childcare, whether through discounted kid pricing or making the salon an all-ages space, it shifts the energy entirely. The result? It no longer feels like the getaway our clients come here for.
About That “Childish” Decor…
We’ve heard it before: “Your salon is so whimsical and colorful, are you kid-friendly?” The truth is, our decor is inspired by our owner’s own childhood, a love letter to being a millennial and growing up in the late ‘80s and ‘90s. It’s nostalgia, not an invitation for nap time and juice boxes.
Those who get it, get it.
The Bottom Line
We adore our parent clients. We champion our parent stylists. And we’ve built a business that allows us to show up fully for both, without sacrificing the experience we’ve worked so hard to create. Not offering kid pricing isn’t about exclusion, it’s about staying true to what makes The Hair Room special for the people who love it most.
We know we’re not for everyone. And that’s exactly how we like it.
