This weekend we celebrate our second year in business. We experienced so much growth in this past year and I wanted to take this opportunity to reflect and thank those of you who made this year a success.
It's still hard to believe this is my job. That I created something and it's successful. That we have culture that encourages stylists to grow, provides them with a safe and positive work environment. That people are receptive to our charm and different ways of bringing great beauty services to our community.
You will notice almost every visit you make to the salon something is cosmetically a little different. With the growth we experienced this year we were forced to constantly evolve the layout of the salon to best serve our guests, and we've got more changes coming your way!
While we love our location, we are limited to what we can do to spruce up the building, but with the help of some paint and additional foliage from our friends at 14th Street Garden Center (& Craigslist) we added more flair to the outside of the salon.
We've added two additional stylists, an assistant and manager to our team. The culture I've created at the salon is probably one of the top 3 most important factors in my business. Creating the perfect team is imperative to keeping that culture alive. I'm blessed to have a team of likeminded, strong women to help fulfill that goal.
Aside from growth, this year was definitely about community. We were blessed to be able to give back to local groups including: Snow Ball, WomenRising, and No Dominion Theatre. However, this year we were able to stretch our outreach further with out efforts to give aid to Houston and Puerto Rico. I am still amazed at the outpour of help we received with our hurricane relief efforts. What started as a plan to collect a few items, check them on my Southwest flight has grown into a cross country trip with a friend, a 16 foot truck and over $150,000 worth of donations. With the platform of my small business I was able to get my entire community together and support our beloved Texas. I received donations from New York and New Jersey and during our road trip we are stopping in Maryland, Georgia and Louisiana for more. We even stopped in Philadelphia to meet a little boy named Jett who was selling sweet tea for Houston. Thanks from deep in the heart of Texas to my friend Neil for helping faciliate
Part of what draws me to this industry is the constant need for continuing education. A huge part of my promise to my team is to provide consistent, up to date education. We were able to take over 4 classes as a team this past year and I sought out my own education from some of my idols. I also checked something else off my personal professional bucket list and became an educator myself for my favorite product line Evo. This next year will bring many opportunities for me to share my love of Evo with salons in the tri-state area and beyond.
In addition to our continuing education classes, I also take the team out of state to attend one of the country's best hair shows. For two years in a row we will be attending Behind The Chair's show in Texas. 3 days of the best education from the best stylists in the game. We also take a few extra days to take a break from the salon, do some team building and most importantly have fun. We head back to the Lone Star State August 25th, 2018.
Our marketing and branding has improved dramatically thanks to our amazing salon coordinator Liz. She is the brains and talent behind everything you see visually online about the salon. She is able to take the delusional thoughts and dreams from my head and translate them beautifully. In keeping with a constant look on social media we decided to improve our photo booth area and added a permanent dedicated mural wall, painted by none other than @onceuponaluaren. Are you ready for your close up?
We also have Lauren's jackets hanging all over the salon and of course the are available for purchase. Come try them on, take your headshot in them, they are gorgeous.
Liz also welcomed her baby girl Rylie on Tuesday June19th, we are so proud of her!
Thanks so much for being part of our our dream! Come by and celebrate with us today, we will have all the popcorn, pink lemonade and cupcakes your heart desires. We will continue the celebration tonight at PS Wine Bar for karaoke. First song and drink is on me!
